2017/18

We are delighted to write to you and share our KS2 (end of year 6) provisional results for the academic year 2017/18.  These assessment results are extremely important as they give you, as parents/carers, an indication to the standards of teaching and learning throughout the school.

These assessments and the results are used to assess the children’s progress throughout their time at primary school and to compare the school’s performance against other schools both nationally and locally. The children are assessed in Literacy (reading, writing, grammar punctuation and spelling) and Mathematics (arithmetic and reasoning).

At the end of Key Stage 2 (Year 6) the expectation is that children will reach age related expectations, which equates to National Standards (NS). Some children may achieve a Higher Standard (HS) and this represents an achievement above age related expectations. As a school, we are measured on our progress from KS1 to KS2.  The national measure for progress is '0’, anything below this is below national standards and any score higher than 0 is above. Schools with scores of +4 or more points are deemed very high performing schools.

Analysis

These are excellent results. They show that 87% of our children reached age related expectations (NS) or above in Reading, Writing and Maths which is above our target and above Newham and National averages from last year. They also show a 17% increase on our results from last year. Compared to national results, over three times as many children (35%) in the year group exceeded age related Expectations (HS) showing a 20% increase on the previous year.  Again these results were above Newham and National averages.

*Revised figures will be published in in the ‘National curriculum assessments at key stage 2’ publication in December. There may be small differences between these figures and the revised figures however the differences between provisional and revised national figures are usually negligible.

Overall these are extremely pleasing results and demonstrate the hard work the school has been doing to raise the standards in teaching and learning. Every single result is an improvement on last year and every single result is above last year’s Newham and National averages. They are also the best results in the school’s recent history and they give us much to celebrate. However a good school is one that is constantly reflective and always wants to improve and these results also give us areas to develop, improve and move forward. The school has already analysed these in depth and plans are in place to learn from them and to progress the curriculum as we work towards preparing for 2018/9. If any of you would like to comment on these results or on the academic standards within the school then please do feel free to complete the slip below or email me using: info@northbeckton.newham.sch.uk using  the heading ‘KS2 Results’ in the subject box. Thank you for your continued support.
